As of now in the meeting the following commission members are ABSENT Linda Bernard – District 2 Willie E. Bell – District 4 – (excused absence) Willie E. Burton – District 5 Lisa Carter – District 6 – (excused absence)

and the "Red Light Resolution" is passed unanimously. A public commenter who advocated for the issue has been invited to say a few words. He asks people to join him in Lansing to further advocate for the issue
Commissioner Burton asks the rep for the police department what the department is doing about air quality and the corporations leading to poor air quality
The commission offered much praise for district 4 commander Shelley Holderbaum who shared updates for her district, especially from commissioners Moore and Bernard
A public commenter is reminding the commission to center addressing police misconduct (my thoughts: whether this is mutually exclusive with praising the progress of the police department is an interesting question)
Public commenter points out that air quality IS in fact within the purview of the police department, as was raised by commissioner Burton. The example given is laws around idling cars and trucks – grossly unenforced, per the commenter, and a big factor in poor air quality.
Fairly sure that 2 commenters now have been cut short by about 25 seconds. The last example was confused by having to restart the timer amongst some commotion in the room, but the commenter never received a full, uninterrupted 2 minutes

The Board of Police Commissioners has supervisory control and oversight of the Police Department, including plenary authority over citizen complaints and the power to appoint fact finders, subpoena witnesses, administer oaths, take testimony, and require the production of evidence. The Board also appoints a civilian as Director of Police Personnel and approves all promotions made by the Chief.
