Detroiters discussed possibilities for the city’s environmental planning and open space. Participants felt that neighborhood-managed open spaces could work across the city, and supported climate-ready neighborhood strategies for handling excess rain and creating cooler climates.
Hey hey hey #Detroit!! What’s good???
.
.
Today at 1:30pm I’ll be covering a planning Detroit policy workshop!
.
.
Keep those eyes peeled!
10:43 AM Apr 12, 2025 CDT
I’ve never done one of these in person before!! So excited!! And snacks- sooo many snacks for Nadia yessss..
The overview is on screen, and I’m SUPER interested in these boards with sticky notes on the other side of the room..
“Open space and Environment” is what this presentation is called.
.
.
On the screen it says ‘Plan Detroit is a roadmap for future development’
This room is so well lit and clean, everyone’s listening quietly!! Awesomeeee
The project manager is explaining the master plan process to us in three phases;
.
.
Analysis and Visioning
Draft Policies
Final plan.
.
.
Plan Detroit is in the drafting policies phase.
There’s three other workshops next week, Arts and Culture, Mobility, and Jobs and Economy! I might tune in- maybe you should too!
“Detroit will be a city of choice and opportunity.” She says
The mic has been transferred to Bethany on the Consulting team! She asked how we’re doing - and I’m doing peachy keen :D
She mentioned the ‘urban heat island’ effect talking about environmental risks- and I have no idea what that is so I’m looking it up!
.
.
‘Vacant spaces can be community assets, not burdens.’
.
.
I like that! One of the old homes near my house recently turned into a community center- or something of the like! So cool.
Time for an activity! Conversation starters about city engagement! Let’s see how it goes!
Sorry for being MIA! That activity was very fun, and my table had a delightful discussion- I was even able to share my ideas with the room!! Maybe I’ll post the audio of that later !!
It seems like this event is wrapping up, but I’m hoping to keep up with plan Detroit in the future- because this was very enlightening and engaging!!
